Quality Assistant - Dudley and Oldbury sites

We are proud to be supporting our client in the recruitment of a Quality Assistant. This is a hands-on, shop-floor-focused role involving inspections, testing, documentation, and supporting continuous improvement activities within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The role requires strong shop floor presence, working closely with mill operators and production teams to ensure product quality, drive standards, and resolve issues effectively

.

The Role

- Support and help maintain the company's ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

- Carry out daily quality control activities and inspections on the shop floor.

- Perform inspection, testing, and verification duties as required.

- Ensure manufactured products meet required specifications and customer standards.

- Record inspection results accurately and maintain quality documentation and records.

- Investigate, log, and support the close-out of internal and external nonconformities.

- Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.

- Work closely with production teams on the mill to address quality concerns and help prevent recurrence.

- Maintain a strong shop floor presence, working with operators to promote quality standards

- Support internal audits and preparation for external/customer audits.

- Attend customer visits and audits, supporting quality discussions and demonstrating compliance.

- Support customer complaint investigations and provide quality data where required.

- Liaise with customers and suppliers (with support from the Quality team) to help resolve quality issues professionally and promptly.

- Support the review and monitoring of raw material quality and supplier performance.

- Assist in identifying quality-related risks and escalating issues appropriately.

- Support change control activities within the business in line with procedures.

- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and quality improvement projects.

- Support calibration checks and basic verification of measuring equipment.

- Prepare basic quality reports, maintain records, and support KPIs related to quality performance.

- Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, legal requirements, and company procedures

- Help maintain 5S, housekeeping, and quality standards within the work area.

£30,000

Monday-Friday 8 hours per day including 30 minute break

23 days holiday & 8 public holidays

The Person

- Sound working knowledge of ISO 9001.

- A systems-based approach to quality management.

- Customer focus.

- 8-D Problem solving and other quality tools.

- Excellent communication skills.

- Current driving licence require.

- SAP knowledge/experience (desirable)

- Customer liaison skills.

- Experience working with suppliers.

- Continual improvement in products processes

- Quality core tools.

Essential

Experience in a manufacturing quality-related environment (steel/metal manufacturing preferred)

Good attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately

Comfortable working on the shop floor in a production environment

Basic understanding of quality control and inspection processes

Confident using IT systems for data entry and reporting

Good communication skills and ability to work with operators and production teams

Desirable

Knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems

Experience using measuring equipment (e.g. calipers, micrometers, gauges)

Basic understanding of technical drawings and specifications

Experience in heavy industry or continuous manufacturing environments
