About the Role
CNC Setter/Programmer - Wolverhampton - £15-17 per hour, depending on experience
We are proud to be supporting our client in their recruitment for a CNC Setter/Programmer. This is a full time, permanent role.
The role
- Machine Setup and Preparation: Load raw materials, install tools, fixtures and workpieces into CNC machines. Adjust machine parameters for optimal performance, including speeds, feeds, and tolerances.
- Programming and Optimization: Read and interpret technical drawings, 3D models, and job orders to write, edit, or debug CNC programs using machine-specific languages. Test and refine programs to minimise cycle times and material waste.
- Operation and Production: Operate CNC machines to produce parts, monitor processes for defects, and perform in-process inspections using tools like vernier and measuring tapes. Run production batches while adhering to safety and quality standards.
- Quality Control and Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues like tool wear, programming errors, or machine malfunctions to maintain production flow.
- Maintenance and Documentation: Perform routine machine maintenance, cleaning, and calibration. Maintain accurate records of setups, programs, tool usageand production data for traceability and process improvement.
- Collaboration and Continuous Improvement: Work with engineers, designers and team members to review project requirements, suggest process enhancements and support lean manufacturing initiatives.
The details
Hours - Rotating Shifts:
Mon - Thurs: 6am - 2pm / 2pm - 10pm
Friday: 6am - 12pm / 12pm - 6pm
The person
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in CNC programming (G-code/M-code) and CAM software; experience with controls like Fanuc, Siemens, or Haas. Ability to read engineering drawings is essential.
- Experience1-2+ years in CNC setting, operating, and programming roles, preferably with multi-axis machines (e.g., 3-5 axis mills). Familiarity with aluminium is beneficial.
- Soft Skills: Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities; ability to work independently or in teams. Physical stamina for standing, lifting (up to 20KG), and shift work (including weekends if needed).
- Work Environment and Conditions
- Typically, in a fast-paced manufacturing shop floor with noise, machinery, and potential hazards (PPE required).
